CALLING ALL DIY BRIDES.....and anyone who aspires to be a sugar artist!

Cake Cathdedral is excited to announce a Fall 2010 Sugar Flower Class. We will be meeting the first three Saturdays of November, (6th, 13th & 20th) from 9:00am - 1:00pm. In just twelve hours, learn how to make this beautiful cake topper in any colors you choose...a step-by-step program that anyone can learn, no experience needed! The flowers are roses, peonies, calla lilies, hydrangeas, sweet peas and filler flowers. Class size is small so there will be lots of one-on-one instruction. All materials and equipment are provided, all you need to bring is an apron, notepad and pen. The cost is $175. Don't miss this opportunity to learn a new skill, make new friends, AND create a beautiful topper for your wedding cake! Call Jenny at (805) 459-9572 or email at cakecathedral@gmail.com.

This cake went to Avila Beach last weekend. The flowers are all sugarpaste....hydrangeas in the bride's chosen colors for her wedding.
By the way, the white thing that looks like it's sticking out of the top tier (next to the bride and groom topper) is actually a white tent pole.....it's not really sticking out of the cake. Bad angle, I know, but that's where the cake table was stationed.)Posted by Picasa

This past weekend I had the pleasure of attending the First Annual, Eberle Winery Wedding Expo. It was a great success! Although it was a very hot day up in Paso Robles, Cake Cathedral, along with some other great wedding vendors, kept cool down in the cave area below the winery's tasting room. Labor Day weekend brought many tourists into the winery, but there were also quite a few engaged couples who took the opportunity to get to know some of the best vendors in the biz! Congratulations to all the couples, and I truly look forward to working with you!

While I admit this is not your typical birthday cake (dumpster-diving for ham hocks) it DID meet the client's expectations when she ordered it for her aunt's 50th birthday! Sometimes it's best not to ask too many questions..... Although the request was for a dumpster, complete with a ham hock (the fish bones were a last-minute detail that just seemed to go with the overall theme) and a replica of her aunt..."and make her look dirty!"... being the final request, this was an immensely fun cake to make. Just to add a touch of class (if that's possible with this cake) it was a champagne-flavored cake with champagne buttercream.

Wow....two posts in one day....I'm getting ahead of myself (or just creating more work?) Anyway, I just delivered this cake to a wedding out in Cayucos, a beautiful little seaside town just north of Morro Bay on the Central Coast. There's nothing like a deep blue ocean, sand and sun to make a wedding day absolutely stunning...today was no exception. The cake was lemon, with lemon and raspberry fillings, and real flowers between the tiers. Congratulations Crissy and Ryan, a truly beautiful couple.

ATTENTION ALL ENGAGED COUPLES.....

Labor Day weekend is just around the corner, and if you happen to be up in Paso Robles enjoying some wine-tasting, then plan on stopping by Eberle Winery who will be hosting their first annual Wedding Expo, Sunday, September 5th. There will be a wonderful assortment of wedding vendors showcasing what they do best...making your Big Day the most memorable one ever!

Cake Cathedral will be displaying a variety of wedding cakes, along with delicious samples for you to try. The event goes from 12:00pm-3:00pm and admission is FREE. Come and have some fun with us while starting to plan your wedding.

See you on the 5th!

This cake was delivered today up in beautiful Cambria...a green velvet cake (yes..I know it's not St. Paddy's day!) with an Italian Meringue Buttercream finish and lots of gorgeous butterflies. The butterflies flew all the way up from Australia just to be on this cake!!! Chris and Stacy, I hope you have a beautiful day and a wonderful life together.

This was a busy weekend for Cake Cathedral...a wedding cake delivery and a catered tea party for a bridal shower. The two-tiered cake and a couple of sheet cakes were delivered to the Dana-Powers House in Nipomo. Congratulations to Erika and Mike...you two rank right up there with my favorite couples! The tea party/bridal shower was so much fun and everyone thought it was a unique and very special way to celebrate the up-coming nuptials...watch for the photos in another blog post.

Whoooo hooooo....I'm a Mother-In-Law! My lovely daughter, Emily, married her sweetheart, Ed, on June 27th. The ceremony and reception were at the Monday Club, right here in San Luis Obispo. My DIY daughter/bride created a truly unique wedding that reflected their personalities to a "T". Everything was fun, colorful and full of good spirit. She wanted a collection of cakes....a three-tiered cake, German Chocolate cake (she had a hand in its creation) and cupcakes in fun, bright wrappers. Emily and Ed....my congratulations and love to you both!

Avila Golf Course was the venue for yesterday's wedding. It was a gorgeous day out at the beach and the big yellow and white tent looked amazing. The theme of the day was 'Beach Elegance' and Linda Renfrow, Events Director, and her talented team had certainly made the Bride's dream a reality. The cake was made up of chocolate, vanilla and strawberry flavors, with chocolate and strawberry fillings. The fondant sparkled with super pearl dust, while white chocolate seashells, roses and ranunculas cascaded in two downward spirals from the top tier. Congratulations Courtney and Eddie! Another car cake...this time a Porsche...for a graduation party. Adding the little details on this one was a blast; the spoiler, the hubcaps, even the windshield wipers! Actually, the wipers, for some odd reason, was my favorite thing about this cake, probably because they were so dinky and cute! (I know...I'm weird!) If you want to see a couple more photos of this cake in progress, check out my Facebook page. BTW, the cake, itself, was Chocolate Kahlua with Chocolate Buttercream filling.

God's Haven For Children, a local organization in San Luis Obispo that does amazing work with foster children, held a fundraiser at the beautiful, historic Biddle House. It was such a fun day featuring local wines, delicious food from Chef Leonard Gentieu of "ONE-Onboard Nautical Events" in Morro Bay, live music....and desserts from yours truly, Cake Cathedral. The mini cakes were White Velvet, rolled in powdered sugar which created a yummy glaze, then decorated with Italian Meringue Butter Cream leaves. To finish, red sugar roses were added to half the cakes, white sugar hydrangea blossoms to the other half. Dean Sullivan of Sullivan Studios did a beautiful job of capturing the cakes and was kind enough to send me this photo. Thanks, Dean!

The Spectacular Spring Bridal Faire at the Madonna Inn this past Sunday certainly lived up to its name! A large number of brides and grooms showed up to check out the booths, talk to vendors and sample the myriad of tasty treats set out by caterers and bakers. The Cake Cathedral's booth was a buzz of activity for four straight hours and I got to meet some really fun couples looking for cakes that would truly represent their personalities. Congratulations to you all, and I look forward to making some spectacular cakes!

Beach Butlerz, a new Central Coast business, celebrated their grand opening with a beach party at Avila Beach this past Saturday. They asked me to make a cake that would tie in with the general theme....soooooo......this is what I came up with. The cake and 'cuppies' are Chocolate Kahlua with Italian Meringue butter cream. The cake was then covered with a textured blue fondant and decorated with handmade sugar mermaids, royal icing coral, sugar octopus, crab (he's hiding in the back!) and seaweed. The seashells that are on the cuppies were dusted with edible pearl dust.
