If simple and romantic is the theme for the day, then this little cake fits the bill perfectly. It's a white genoise cake filled with vanilla buttercream. The whole cake was covered with Italian Meringue Buttercream which is my absolute favorite of all the buttercreams in existence! It is light and creamy and won't mask the flavors of the cake and filling underneath. YUM!

And....when it comes to flowers on a cake, I LOVE to make them out of sugarpaste or chocolate. I can literally spend hours in the kitchen (usually forgetting to eat lunch) cutting out petals, assembling them, one-at-a-time, to form each individual flower, allowing it time to dry, then finally bringing it to life by painting it with petal dust mixed with clear alcohol. Everything is completely edible....but most people don't, preferring, instead, to save them for other occasions (like an anniversary cake), or as a momento of their BIG DAY. If stored properly, these beauties will probably outlast the recipients!
